It is believed that just by you race we can judge whether or not you are going to be a criminal. To a point this has been proven, but this can also be attributed to the fact that people watch certain races closer. If you watch someone close enough you will see them make a mistake. You see gangs of like race joining together which also can effect these outcomes. You can see this in the fact of religion also in the world today. No, I believe in parts of it, but I also think we can twist it around to cover are self for what we do. If we have poor coping skills or poor support we can often find ourselves committing a crime. Or often we want to be part of the group, even if it is the wrong group. Criminals often seek the week to feed off of. Whether you are the victim that they commit the crime against or someone that they see as week and just want to use. We want to fit in, so we will just go with it no matter what the cost. (Agnew 1997) Also, we believe if the ends justify the means we should do it. So if we decide it is ok to do a crime because it is necessary, we are more willing to do it. This goes to our basic survival needs, if we need it to survive we are justified. We do not know though how this will effect thee person that we stole from. Or, in a criminals mind, if the punishment is not as bad as the crime is good. They often believe that they can do what little punishment they face because the reward was far better.
So the answer to the question, do you believe in the strain theory? Yes, I believe that if we meet the standards that are laid out in it to a whole we will often create a crime. Yet, for the most part I believe a large amount of the population will not meet the guidelines as a whole and will only use it as a crutch. A large amount of criminals will be that even if they had everything that they wanted and strived for
