Stradlater: A Fictional Narrative

Stradlater walked out of his room ready to meet me in the annex. When I saw the shadow of a figure making their way down the hall, I assumed it was Stradlater and began preparing myself to greet him.

Never. I can tell you that I don’t have a car. I usually get rides with my friends. The car ride to the pizza place was silent and awkward. I wanted to mention Holden, but I didn’t want to seem needy or desperate to a guy I barely knew. Fortunately, it took me by surprise but Stradlater worked up the courage to say something.

“Oh yeah, Holden Caulfield says hi back. He also wanted to know if you still leave your kings in the back row when you play chess.”

“Oh that’s nice he remembers, I haven’t played chess anytime soon. The last time I played was with Holden when we were younger. Give him my regards please when you get back to your dorm.”

Oh. My. Gosh. How did Holden remember that? Holden remembers that! Inside I was jumping up and down. Holden was the only friend I really had that I could talk to when I was little. He always was shy and didn’t know how to communicate his emotions very well. Because if he did, I would of told him he was my childhood
