Stories “are lies in search of a higher truth” (Cloke). This paradoxical statement suggest that “fragments of the storyteller’s truth” extends beyond merely facts to fabricated ideas created in order to support a certain thought (Cloke). Controversies and conflicts exist when one storyteller’s truth clashes with another storyteller’s truth such as the situation in Success Academy. Through the attempts to rationalize their violent behavior towards children, Success Academy displays their own truth of what is perceived to be success; However, outside critics think otherwise since their understanding of successful teaching is different. Being able to understand the intentions of both Success Academy and critics allows resolution between two conflicting …show more content…
Former teachers who resigned from their distaste of the school culture emphasize negativity to prove that Success Academy’s ways of teaching is unethical and wrong. Similarly, critics strengthen their authority over the conflict by dramatizing the problem and stressing their desire to relieve the children from a detrimental teaching environment. By promoting the victimization story and contending for justice, a need for change is founded. This justification for their position is needed to galvanize mass support and pressure the school towards self reflection and eventual change. Developing authority to speak in behalf of the children at Success academy is essential since followers are organized when presented a purpose and a goal through these rationalization. Claiming that Ms. Dial’s behavior in the video is a rare case and “did not reflect their experience of the school”, Success Academy believes in a different truth (Taylor). By denying of negative behaviors towards children, the school attempts to maintain a pristine image. This version of the truth may or may not reflect what actually happens behind the school doors; However, it does reflect the true intentions of the school. Denial represents Success Academy’s faith in their teaching ideology. Instead of promoting tolerance towards mistakes that children make and correcting unpopular teaching methods, Success Academy views academic achievements as their priority. “The storyteller” is an article by Sandra Cisneros about her life journey beginning from post graduate school to a school teacher. In between she writes about her life in the point of views of a dependent, a growing writer, and a teacher, with short descriptions that gives the reader a glimpse of her mentality on each stage. All that is mixed up into the life of an average Hispanic woman from Chicago. Halfway through her article, during her “growing writer” stage, Cisneros writes a paragraph about what her and her friends do together.…

Lastly, the final essay in Kohl’s book, Creative Maladjustment and the Struggle for Public Education, talks about how learning to survive with only minimal moral and personal compromise in a compromised world. He argues that often at times, the failure of the schools and teachers is pinned on the students, by dividing the students into roles. Whether they are good or bad, intelligent or dumb, have high or low potential; Kohl feels that with maladjustment of a curriculum, these labels that are placed on children can be torn…

To Whom This May Concern, The source of bad school stories are numerous and can often come from several places simultaneously. The stories are frequently rooted in misinformation, a bad experience by a small faction or the perpetuation of an incident, story or report taken out of context, misrepresented and/or grossly exaggerated. A situational approach should be used when addressing such incidents with a clear understanding of how the decision or approach taken will impact stakeholders. Bryk and Schneider determined that “Trust matters as a resource for school improvement (Hargreaves and Fink, 2006 pg. 214).” Relational trust, according to Bryk and Schneider, can be defined as the interpersonal social exchanges that take place in a school…

Some do not know the difference between story-truth and happening truth. In Tim O’Brien’s book about the Vietnam War he tells many stories. He starts off by explaining what each man carried, going into the war itself where people are killing other people and soldiers are dying, then talking about a man O’Brien killed, ending with what types of emotion these soldiers brought home with them. Some feel grief, torn, lost, and others simply feel okay. War gives each man a different feeling towards it.…

I believe that the NFL media, NFL based news sites, NFL T.V. channels, or just NFL news in general “jumps” on players and situations too hard. The NFL media productions around the world do this without even knowing a fourth of what happens inside the locker room or even on the field. But like I stated before, NFL media productions creates what is called “half true, half false” stories. This is because they want to create bigger stories and “breaking news” out of small, unwanted stories. This is because they would not make money out of those stories, and because nobody would read those stories in general (basically because they are small situations that don’t affect anything).…

In her article “The Predicament of ‘Doing School’”, author Denise Clark Pope gives an insight into what students are actually learning in school. She did a study in which she evaluated the behavior of students a prep school called Faircrest High. She states, “Often their behavior contradicts the very traits and values many parents, students, and community members expect schools to instill. By rewarding certain kinds of success above others, Faircrest High may actually impede that which it hopes to achieve. Instead of fostering in its students traits such as honesty, integrity, cooperation, and respect, the school may be promoting deception, hostility, and anxiety.”…

"Objection, your Honor, the question calls for a narrative answer,” is what a lawyer present at the Salem Witch trials could have declared. This would have diminished the evidence as solely based on a conjecture that can often be misconstrued. Unfortunately for the victims, the trials were purely biased with fictitious evidence; the fraudulent accusations are made obvious to be part of a revenge plot between the townspeople of Salem. Once the accusations are made, they are blindly seen as the veracity by the people. The truthfulness behind the allegations comes into question when well respected folks are implicated.…
