I have decided to produce an E-book from Storybird and believe this will be helpful to teach my students about becoming digital citizens and explore the use of technology for the creation of educational materials. Storybird is an E-book creation program with interesting graphics, allowing users to easily create story books. Maple Tree Home School believes that this is important to our young students shaping their perceptions of books and reading. Younger students will be highly motivated to create books and this in turn may assist students in their discovery of the beauty of reading. During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

“Everyone is a reader… Some just haven’t found their favorite book yet.” I remember how I used to like playing with my electric car or bike and especially caring about collecting the hot wheels cars collection. Like any child at this age, all he cares about is jumping around on sofas, running through doors and breaking stuff and walking on it. But here comes the dream breakers who are our literacy sponsors.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

Reflective Narrative 1 When I was thinking about what to do as a senior project, I knew that I wanted to do something helpful for the school, in an uncomplicated way. Since sophomore year, I’ve been involved in the school’s peer mediation program. It is a very valuable program in the school, so for my senior project I wanted to learn more about it as well as expand it by recruiting underclassmen and leading mediation trainings. The steps involved in planning this project included meeting with my mentor several times a week to discuss recruiting strategies and to plan trainings that I would be leading.…

Throughout taking the course WRIT 1500 this semester, I feel that my writing has improved immensely. I have always struggled with planning an essay and writing it but taking this course has helped me improve my writing skills. One example of a struggled I experience is creating a thesis. For example, my first essay’s thesis stated, “The use of narration, description, and cause and effect rhetorics shape the authors essays to create stronger pieces of writing”. The requirement for the first essay was to find three important rhetorics that were used throughout the essays we read.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
