The Story of Narwhals

Once upon a time there was a unicorn named Calvin. Why he was named Calvin, don’t ask me. Maybe his parents liked that name. Maybe they didn’t. But that is irrelevant. The point is, Calvin liked long walks along the ocean. Why he liked long walks along the ocean, don’t ask me. Maybe they were nice, relaxing ways to clear his head. Maybe they weren’t. But that is irrelevant. One morning, he was walking alongside the shore he saw a manatee. That’s it.
That night he was on Equine-Mingle, looking for love. Last year, he had been in a relationship with a zebra named Zanzibar. (Why she was named Zanzibar, don’t ask me. Maybe her parents liked that name. Maybe they didn’t. But that is irrelevant.) They had everything, but one day, Zanzibar was killed by poachers, who skinned her carcass and sold her hide for money, and left her exposed innards rotting on the ground. Why they did that, don’t ask me. Maybe they had families, and were trying to food on the table. Maybe they weren’t. But that is irrelevant. The point is, Calvin had a hole in his heart, he thought no one could heal. Until that night, on Equine-Mingle………………………………………………………………..

She liked him because he never called her names. He never really called her anything, because he's just a coral. But she liked pretending that she could talk to him, and he can talk to her. He knew lots of jokes and was really funny. She was lonely and bored, and decided to make a profile on Equine-mingle. She then wrapped herself in her zebra skin blanket and went to sleep. Why a manatee set up an account on a dating site for horses, we may never know. What we do know is that this will become very important later on in the story. Trust me, it has nothing to do with the fact that the only other established character is also on Equine-mingle. It doesn’t. That’s just a coincidence. I

N-V Cougar Practice It was just another regular day to practice for the Niobrara-Verdigre Cougars at Niobrara. All of the Verdigre football players despised going over to Niobrara for practice. It was the usual ride over there with all of us talking about how school went that day, about football, or about other topics in the news. We would turn up the radio if a song came on that most of us could sing since we knew the song. It would seem sometimes that it seemed we were on the way to choir practice not football practice.…

In the story “She Unnames Them” by Ursula LeGuin, Eve from Adam and Eve is the main character. The main character makes references to the story of Adam and Eve and also mentions the garden. The authors point in the story is that in today's world there are many barriers between humans and God’s creations, one of them being the debate of whether people have names because of respect or classification. For example “They seemed far closer than when their names had stood between myself and them like a clear barrier” (LeGuin 2). The quote clearly exposes the author's point in getting across the message that between all of God’s creations from humans to animals that the names that are in place for humans and nature create barriers such as fear and…

The juxtaposition employed in James Wright’s “A Blessing” creates an ominous mood and reveals a more somber undertone. Superficially, “A Blessing” appears to be a simple poem about ponies, however, Wright’s use of contrasting diction creates a dark mood that alters the meaning of the poem as a whole. When the speaker and his friend first approach the horses, their eyes “[d]arken with kindness” (Wright 4). By contrasting the light emotion of kindness with physical darkness, the author generates a foreboding disconnect that creates an overall darker mood.…
