Story Of An Hour Theme Analysis

Decent Essays
My theme choice of The Story of an Hour is; we see death every single day whether it's from some type of news or social media and we don't think much of it, and we just say “oh well” and life goes on, but when someone close to us dies we panic or think it's the most horrifying thing. Isn’t it sort of funny how in the story Richards heard about the accident in the railroads but only cared for Mr. Mallards aren’t we supposed to care for everyone no matter what? I think my theme really applies to almost any story that has a death in it and i think it’s a true but sad theme.
In the story Richards heard about the accident that happened on the railroads and i bet he didn't think much of it until he saw the death list. Mr. Mallard’s name was leading

Your emotions play a huge role in ever day life and are what makes us human. Emotions are not on a set schedule, and happen in various ways, for various reasons. In The Story of an Hour, Mrs. Mallard goes through the stages of grief in the time span of an hour. This is very interesting due to the fact that, for most of us, it usually takes a span from at least days, to months, to even years to fully go through the stages of grief. I believe that Chopin’s story is centered on time and emotions by just reading the title.…

My nomination for best short is “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin. In her tale of Mrs. Mallard and the description on what is given about how she felt when she thought her husband was dead is absolutely the best description given of any women who may have been abused verbally or physically by their husband. Though it doesn’t specify or even hint around to the fact that she was abused, her actions and thoughts speak clearly to me. Not only is this story a wonderful description of how an abused woman would feel hearing of her husband’s untimely death, there is also a twist to the plot in the end that changes the whole story entirely.…

“The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin briefly recounts the tale of a frail, old woman, Mrs. Mallard, who learns of her husband’s unexpected death. Feeling relieved by the freedom widowhood affords, she quickly overcomes her heartbreak. However, as she is overcoming her heartbreak, her husband returns, and her heart breaks, causing her to drop dead on the spot. “The Story of an Hour” is a short story that, as promised, takes place over the course of an hour. The rapid pacing of the story gives cause for the story to heavily rely on imagery to explain to readers the brief renewal of Mrs. Mallard’s life upon her husband’s death and the quick resurgence of the sickliness that causes her death that she experiences upon Mr. Mallard’s return.…

Through the use of dramatic and situational irony, Chopin's creates an intricate plot, through rising action, climax and a denouement. Since it is a short story, the rising action quickly presents the conflict in the story. There is a trend in history that a woman must depend on and devote herself to a man. In the text “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, it emphasizes this idea very clearly. Although the text was written in 1895, the same attitude within it is present in today’s culture. The manner in which the characters treat each other and the fear of the unexpected emotions from the situation, are still very relevant in today’s society. The story casts light on the way women feel trapped in their personal relationships.…
