The Literacy Analysis of “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin
Kate Chopin, a narrator whose had faced the negative situation of marriage in her own life wrote the story mentioned, “The Story of an Hour.” As the story states, “The Story of an Hour happens within an hour. Besides, the title kind of you the idea that so many things can happens and could even change your life in a short period of time. In fact, Kate Chopin wrote this story to describe her negative opinion on the married of the women. “The Story of an Hour” is basically focusing on the character named, Mrs. Louis Mallard. The woman who is sustaining from a serious heart disease (Chopin 1). Actually, Kate Chopin put Mrs. Mallard to represent the negative sentiment of the marriage. In the outset of the story, it gives you the opposite perception about the main character different from what was already known.
“The Story of an Hour” starts out with the death news of Mrs. Mallard’s husband Mr. Mallard. “It was her sister Josephine who told her, in broken sentences; veiled hints that revealed in half concealing (Chopin 2).” After hearing the news of her husband’s death, Mrs. Mallard was in daze and started sobbing in her sister arm. Mrs. Mallard is already dead with the heart attack. Everyone thought she passed from a heart attack, which upon receiving the happiness the fact that her husband didn’t die. In fact, she expired from heart attack, which upon receiving the fact that her husband is alive. She lost all the hopes which she thought she finally made it. And just in a short stop of time, she had lost it all. And she couldn’t bear the fact that she would not get a freedom that she thought would. Because her husband is alive.
