After some talk between Lengel and Queenie, Sammy knew that the girls were in hurry to leave so he tells Lengel “I quit.” Sammy then tries to defend the girls by telling Lengel that he “didn’t have to embarrass them.” By the time Sammy was looking for the girls, they have already left. Sammy’s desperation brought him to the point where he quits his job for nothing because the girls left and did not even notice him. Similarly, the desperation of Louise from “Story of an Hour” brought out the worst in her. At first, she was desperate to see her husband again because she was very upset and tired when she heard about his death. “[Louise] sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul.” Soon she felt that “something [was] coming to her and she was waiting for it.” When she “was beginning to recognize this thing that was approaching to possess her,” she tried to fight back but gave into it. She felt the sense of freedom and became happy. At this point she had a desperation for freedom. Louise realizes that “there would be no
