"The Story of an Hour" is a short story written by Kate Chopin. In “The Story of an Hour,” Kate appoints specific structural and stylistic techniques to heighten the drama that occurs in the hour. The story is made up of a wave of short paragraphs. Some only consist of just two or three sentences. Kate uses repetition to highlight important points, such as when she repeats the word “open” throughout the story to emphasize the freedom of Louise’s (the wife) new life. (line 18-20) The author also repeats phrases and sentence structures to highlight important points. “She breathed a quick prayer that life might be long.
