I believe Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut were all introduced before Bartleby because they were helping describe the setting. The story started in an office and these characters help give the setting a more alive feeling. In addition, the addition of the characters helps shape Bartleby and shows what kind of lawyer he really is.
3) He is old and weared out not looking healthy at all. Bartley ends up dying alone and imprisoned. His unhealthy looking body definitely helped with foreshadowing that scenario. He was worn beaten and alone trying to help others.
