Alabama Moon is a story about an eleven year boy who grew up in the woods with his father. It explains how they survived and the reasons his dad chose to live in the wilderness. His father eventually dies. The story goes on with Moon trying to survive on his own; however, he eventually ends up in some trouble. In the beginning, Moon Blake and his father are living in the woods in a small cabin-like structure that they built themselves. They hunt, grow, or gather anything that they eat. Moon’s father is named Oliver. He decided that they needed to live in the woods because he was very opposed to the government. Moon was raised in the forest so that was all that he knew. It was very rare for him and his father to go into town. His father dies
