Storm Water Pollution In Georgia

Storm water pollution is a huge problem in Georgia. It can lead to sickened animals and polluted waterways. Storm water itself isn’t deadly though. It is what is in the storm water that can be. I will explain exactly storm water pollution is and how it can be prevented. Storm water is the water that falls from a storm and onto the ground. Like I said before, storm water itself isn’t harmful. But when pollution from the ground and other such areas mix in with the water it can become deadly. These pollutants can come from anywhere from roads to yards, homes to factories, and cars to sewers and can be anything from dish soap to car oil. It may sound like a no brainer but it is surprising how many or these areas a kept unclean. By keeping these areas clean it can greatly reduce how much pollution that the water will pick along its way to the sewer. These areas include roads, sidewalks, rooftops, and gutters. Washing cars at home may not seem like a big deal and may even be cheaper than going to an automated carwash, but there are also some downsides. The water mixed with the soap will go straight to the sewer and into a lake.to prevent this runoff, using a commercial car wash will be a huge help. The wash will usually have a drain that doesn’t lead to a body of water. Another way is to wash cars on dry grass or gravel or some other permeable area to prevent runoff altogether. This is probably one of the safest tactics available in this situation. Factories are a huge contribution to the storm water pollution problem. The smoke from the factories will be directly absorbed into the water and go into the rivers. Not only will this pose a problem with water pollution but also one with pollution itself.
