Jason wakes up on a school bus without any memories whatsoever. Next to him is a girl, Piper McClean, and a boy, Leo Valdez. Piper, who claims to be Jason’s girlfriend, and Leo, who says he’s his best friend, tell Jason that they are on a field trip to the Grand Canyon. Once they reach the canyon, they are attacked by venti, or storm spirits. In the chaotic series of events that follow, they find out that their counselor, Coach Gleeson Hedge, is a satyr, Jason pulls out a magic coin that transforms into a sword, and, to his surprise, can control the winds. They drive the storm spirits away, but they bring Coach Hedge with them.

Leo chooses to keep the fact that he can control fire a secret. Jason finds out that he speaks Latin, not Greek. Hera tells Jason she wants him as her Champion. Greek gods personalities are different than Roman gods. They get the Prophecy of the Seven. Which says “Seven Half-bloods shall answer the call. To storm of fire the world must fall. An oath to keep with a final breath, and foes bear arms to the Doors of Death” Jason’s father is Jupiter or Zeus, king of the gods. Then Jason gets another prophecy, this one especially for him. Piper tells the others about her dad. Jason remembers that the Bay Area is important. They are attacked by wolves but are saved by the Huntresses, including Thalia, Jason’s sister. Jason’s backstory is somewhat explained. Leo realises that Jason is a bridge between two places, gets excited, and melts the ice bridge they were standing on. Aeolus, the god of winds, almost tells them where to go, but then tries to kill them. Piper concludes that Gaea is the dirt woman. Aphrodite sends them to California, where Enceladus is. Piper finds her dad, along with ogre like creatures and the giant Enceladus. Jason prays to his father and, with his help, they defeat Enceladus.
They send Piper’s dad to safety. They go to the Wolf House, which is a powerful place for demigods. Thalia and the rest of the Hunters are already there. Piper and Leo must break the cage open. Khione, goddess of ice, was the one who cause them so much trouble: freezing Festus, controlling the venti, and giving the giant Enceladus information. Leo defeats Khione, and Jason controls a storm spirit horse named tempest. Piper and Leo then try to get Hera’s cage open. Porphyrion threatens to kill Jason and blame the Greeks for it. Hera escapes and transforms into her true form, vaporizing the remaining

Mary Zimmerman’s play, Argonautika, synthesizes elements of Greek Mythology and modern pop culture to create an engaging and humorous production while maintaining the conclusion of a classic tragedy. The play uses plot components from the traditional Greek myth of Jason, leader of a boat named the Argo, who has been charged with the quest of retrieving the Golden Fleece from a distance land for his uncle the king. Upon success of the quest, Jason will be crowned ruler of his uncle’s land. However, many dangerous and seemingly impossible tasks lie between the Argo’s crew of heroes and their prize. They must battle sea monsters, harpies, fire-breathing rams and kings or demi-gods along the wat.…

The epic has a similar feel to the Odyssey, the only difference being the Aeneid is written from a Trojan’s perspective. The gods, however, are portrayed in a similar light of causing destruction for personal gain or simply for fun. The gods are displayed by having very distinctive personalities and taking a more active approach in fulfilling their wishes. This can be shown when Jupiter calls a council on Mount Olympus to mediate between Venus and Juno to discuss the fates of Aeneas and Turnus, the leader of the Latin warriors. This shows how the god’s alliances drive the plot of the story.…

James Fenimore Cooper’s narrative in “The Last of the Mohicans” relates a lot to the Romanticism period. It has a lot of the characteristics of American Romanticism. We can see that he is very disgusted with the monarchs of Europe as he says in the first chapter, on page 11, “But, emulating the patience and self-denial of the practiced native warriors, they learned to overcome every difficulty; and it would seem that, in time, there was no recess of the woods so dark, nor any secret place so lovely, that it might claim exemption from the inroads of those who had pledged their blood to satiate their vengeance, or to uphold cold and selfish policy of the distant monarchs of Europe.” Perhaps he is saying this because the time period of the book…
