Social media allows the low risk factor to come into action very easily. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram all allow people all over the world to send friend requests and follow requests. Many young people, mainly females, are more prone to accept any follow or friend requests because they feel as if a follow or a friend count is a significant lot to their social life. By accepting the requests they receive, they have allowed more predators inside their world. Allowing a predator to enter their social media life could also easily let them “slide” into someone’s direct message or inbox, which allows the predator to get in contact with them. The victim could easily think that the predator wants to be their “friend” and “get to know them better,” but in reality, it is actually a trick to lure the young victims into meeting them which would lead to kidnapping. Kidnapping would then lead to the victim being sold and put through prostitution. According to Rodriguez, a trafficker has an “easy time connecting with younger girls because they promise them a better lifestyle and marriage in the future.” Human trafficking can be a booming business, and this is where the high profit factor comes into play. According to Meyer, there was “an annual estimated 14,500 to 17,500 foreigners trafficked into the United States, and the number of U.S. citizens being trafficked each year was even higher.” In 2015, according to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, there were 5,544 human trafficking cases presented in the United States. According to Skinner, “Today, local police and child service workers are much more sensitive to trafficking than they were in 1999.” Although there are many government agencies who are helping to combat the issue of human trafficking and trying to bring more awareness to the topic, there should be an international agency where there are a few law enforcement centers combined together to help bring human trafficking to an end. By creating an international agency, human trafficking could be overseen by many law enforcements, and it could possibly end at a much faster pace compared to one police agency trying to end a case of human trafficking by themselves. An international agency which combats human trafficking and brings awareness to the horrible events before one can be trafficked can be a very efficient agency to help human trafficking cases and reports go down drastically.
