“In 2002, a report released by the U.S. Secret Service concluded that bullying played a significant role in school shootings and that efforts should be made to eliminate bullying behavior” (Ferrell-Smith). Not every person that has been bullied feels the need to hurt other people. Mental illness plays a part also. Psychopaths are generally the ones to kill other people, but more than mentally ill people are bullied. Bully victims can have low self-esteem and/or depression well into adulthood. Sixty percent of male bullies from sixth through ninth grade were convicted of at least one crime by the age of 24 compared to their non-bully counterparts at 23 percent. School shooters and bullies do not act like that for no reason. School shooters are often victims of bullying so they eventually feel and act like a victim. The crazy ones make hit lists and some act upon it. Others do not even make a hit list. They simply go into a school with guns blazing, literally.
