There is no time limit on grief, somethings you may never stop grieving. It is a part of human nature to feel sorrow when something does not necessarily go our way, especially when we lose a loved one. We do not understand how to grasp onto the fact that they will never come back. I believe that the wives grief was a little overboard, but understandable due to the fact that she had lost her child. She was the main source for a human being for 9 months and she connected with the child in a way that the husband did not get a chance to do. He was not able to feel this life grow and feel its movements and that is why it may was harder for the wife. The theme of the poem is heartbreak and tragedy. The husband believes that the wife is grieving

You have an interesting point here. I agree that after the death of her husband, the widow seems to be oblivious to everything that once brought her joy. In the beginning of the poem, the widow mentioned that she was surrounded by a “cold fire” (305). This implies that she has grown cold to the world and the happiness that it offers. Her son informed her that he had seen trees full of her favorite flowers in an attempt to cheer her up.…

Reading and analyzing Anne Bradstreet’s poem “To My Dear and Loving Husband” as well as Sharon Olds’s story “I Go Back to May, 1937” we can terminate that they are both genuinely different pieces of literature that will help understand one another. One deals with a happy marriage and the other one is a daughter talking about her parent’s unhappy marriage. In the poem “To My Dear and Loving Husband” Bradstreet expresses the enormous love she has towards her husband Simon Bradstreet to whom she married at the young age of sixteen. “Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense.” (Bradstreet 425)…

Rock bottom differs for everyone. J. K. Rowling said it best, "Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I built my life," It could be one losing a job, a spouse leaving, having a child taken away by family services, maybe it was watching your best friend or fiancée overdose, it could be sitting in a cold jail cell or it may be one is just sick and tired of being sick and tired. There is no definite or single circumstance that will deliver change. Some individuals have a higher rock bottom than others and they do not need to exhaust very much before they conclude that they have had enough. While another will clench onto their addiction until it sabotages everything worthy in their life.…

In the poem “Modern Love” by George Meredith, the speaker investigates the substances of “modern love” and the torment it causes. The sixteen line reconstructed sonnet communicates the emotions and perspectives of a hopelessly wedded couple, who endure hardship. However, regardless to their actual sentiments; the married couple quantifies the perfect “modern love” relationship, secretly living in anguish as opposed to surprise society and its desires. Meredith talks of society and contained marriage, indicating how they demolish a man and seek after what is to come. The mood of the poem is set within the opening line.…

The poem I created was based from the play by Susan Glaspell called “Trifles.” In trifles the reader finds out about the murder of Mr. Wright, where he was found strangled to death. Throughout the play the men which include the County Attorney, Mr. Hale, and Mr. Peter spend most of their time trying to find evidence on the killing while ignoring the small details believing that they are meaningless. Even though the women Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters are discovering details that could help solve the case, still the men give them no importance, saying that “women are used to worrying over trifles.” (Glaspell Susan, Trifles, Norton Lit.).…

However, we see it even more as we delve deeper into the poem. It is with words and phrases such as “sweet death” and “enduring life” that the author so vividly describes the contrast between a baby and his parents. The author uses his choice of vocabulary to effect the reader. He wants to make them truly understand what he is feeling, and what he is trying to make them feel as well. He also uses his word order to move the poem in certain directions.…

The Raven is Grief “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe enforces deep sadness and grief upon the reader through literacy context that somehow persuades one’s feelings to agree with the character’s own. From the beginning of the poem, the mood is set instantly to start this unoptimistic tale. Grief, despair, sadness, depression, all of these emotional touches begin to impact the main character. The poem references the raven which casts a shadow over a majority of the story, symbolizing the emotions and realizations of the character. Although the raven is seemingly an actual creature, it is actually a metaphor to represent the character’s grief throughout the poem.…
