The ‘Stop and Search’ method was introduced in 1984 and is a controversial issue due to it being deemed as racist towards ethnic minorities. The stop and search method is also said to be one of the main reasons for the feud between black people and the police. Stop and search has also been deemed as ineffective by only having a 7% to 9% success rate.
Stop and search has been found to have a 7 percent to 9 percent success rate, and this is shown consistently from the Metropolitan police 2013 report on stop and search. This shows that stop searches are ineffective at detecting crime, but not only that, the Metropolitan police report that 50 percent to 60 percent of said crimes were for drug possession. This shows that they are arresting people for victimless crimes which do not affect anybody other than the person with the drugs, and the taxpayer who has to pay for prisons.
