Stony Brook University Concert Report

This Stony Brook University performance was the first time I was exposed to any performance, so throughout the concert, there were many things that stuck out to me. The first thing that stuck out to me was the dress code. Upon arrival, I was surprised by dozens in very formal outfits. Once I was in the auditorium I did notice that there were indeed no phones, people talking or people eating. I saw the pride and excitement in some of the families faces as the performance began. It was very quiet and everyone was extremely respectful. I rarely even saw someone whisper to another. Once the performance ended the last memorable demeanor was how long the audience clapped for. We applauded the performers in a standing ovation and the clapping lasted for what seemed like a couple of minutes. The slightest movement or sight of the performers would cause the clapping to intensify. I do not think any words could have truly described how I nor the rest of the audience felt during that performance. The opinions and analogies of the pieces found in the program notes did slightly influence me. I agreed with and understood most opinions and comments of the performances. The listenings I did for my pre-concert assignment were not nearly the same thing as being in the auditorium. It was a completely different experience to see, hear and feel the performance in person as opposed to watching a video on a screen and trying to listen to the depth of the orchestra through
