Research shows that the Stonehenge is one of the biggest cemeteries that are from the third millennium (who was buried). There was excavations that were found within the Stonehenge that show that there has been 52 cremation burials, and more than 40 fragments of human bones that were unburned. William Hawley which is an archaeologist, had collected cremations from the monument and reburied them. Many of the excavation that were collected show that it was meant to be a cemetery for the dead. However, another researcher have kept some of the excavations that were found at the Stonehenge to be studied. The three cremations that were taken were tested and radiocarbon dates showed that they go back to the third millennium. However, each of them dated back to different periods. One of the earliest excavation remains was of an adult from Atkinson’s who dates back to 3030-2880 BC. While the other two cremations were taken from the fills of the ditches by the Stonehenge entrance. One of the excavations was of a young adult that dates to 2920-2870 Cal BC, while the other one was of a 25 year old women who dates back to 2570-2400 BC. Research shows that the cremations of the dead happened after the timber phase, which was before the standing stones were built. The Stonehenge might been built to be a cemetery for the dead but, they are also many people that would argue that it had different
