Stomachaches have always been common problem for me. Throughout my childhood, I’ve had frequent stomach aches. They fill my memories with lots of painful nights and vomit sessions. However, there is one memory of a terrible stomach ache that was more terrifying than the others. One of the scariest days in my life was when I was admitted into the hospital because I had a stomach virus.

It happened in 2005, when I was 4 years old. I was going to a preschool called Samuel United Church of Christ and I loved it. I loved the way we got to paint and play with fun toys. So I was definitely bummed out when I became sick, since I had to miss some days of school. I started vomiting like usual and my stomach hurt a lot. My family didn’t know why I got sick, but my mother suspected it was germs from school. My mom gave me Gatorade and saltine crackers to help settle my stomach, which was nothing unusual. However, when I was still sick after 3 days, my family became worried.

I would drink lots of fluids like water and Gatorade, but nothing was helping. I would whine and beg all day long for my thirst to go away. After a while, my mother couldn’t take it anymore. So, she decided to drive me to the hospital where the professionals could help. We went to a hospital called St. John’s Mercy Medical Center.
