The entire reason she got stolen was because she was being a rebellious teenage daughter. On the other hand, Tyler MacFarlane or Ty is seen as her opposite, he is twenty five and extremely adventurous. Through Gemma’s once enchanting view of Ty, he is tall, tanned, has blonde hair, baby blue eyes that can see the deepest of thoughts, but most of all he is sensitive towards the weak. Ty can at times be incredibly resourceful as seen through his painting of no paint only resources found in the desert. He is not the stereotypical type of kidnapper, because they are in the middle of the desert Ty lets Gemma roam around freely. Gemma’s one desire is to escape and be with her broken family again before she dies. The problems standing in Gemma’s way of achieving her goal is Tyler the antagonist, the harsh land, and herself debating whether or not she truly wants to leave. Ty proclaims to Gemma often that he surly is her escape, the moment Gemma starts believing his lies, and she will start doubting herself and give up her quest of escaping. The parents travel all the time for their jobs so that leaves Gemma constantly moving around striving for the attention of her busy parents. The most important external conflict is Gemma against the desolated land and Ty’s irresistible love. Although the most important internal conflict is Gemma’s desire to escape verses her overwhelming craves to stay with Ty and fulfill his request for love without loneliness. As Gemma begins her plans to finally escape, she finds some love for Ty in her, which puts an enormous complication in her strategy of resolving problems by bolting. The climax of stolen is when Gemma decided on a way of escape and achieves her plan. Gemma finds the keys to Ty’s car, she tries to run away though stealing his car and driving as far away as she possible can. She gets pretty far away but suddenly she gets stuck in a sink hole slowly sinking the car into the sand. Her way of escape has immediately failed, instead of giving up and going back Gemma continues her journey on only two liters of water. She starts walking far away, quickly running out of water and energy. She decided that her clothes were weighing her down, so Gemma is now walking through the desert completely nude and slowly getting more burnt than ever before.
