Growing up I was always told that in life you have the choice between making the change happen or just watch the change happen around you. I am one of those people who like to make the change happen. Stokely Carmicheal is also one of those people who wanted to make changes happen so we share a common ground of leadership with each other. Carmicheal is commonly known for his famous acts within the civil rights movement and his involvement with the Black Panthers. With that being said, if I could have the just one hour of conversation with any historical figure it would have to be, Stokely Carmicheal.

He often wanted to use violence as a way to protest whereas others wanted to stick to non-violent protest. Since there was

Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

Cedreana Hoover The African Community as a whole has been fighting for freedom and equality for generations. From the 17th and 18th century when African-Americans weren't even treated like humans and instead aminals, they were constantly running away in hopes for freedom, in the 1800’s when slavery was finally abolished they had nowhere to go nor were they wanted, during the civil rights movement African Americans died for justice and equality and now today African Americans may be equal in the eyes of the law but not in the eyes around them. Throughout these movements in history there has been multiple mechanisms used to create equality whether it be taking a problem to the supreme court, using violence, causing riots, or peaceful protesting. The idea of using civil disobedience to create equality and raise awareness of injustice has been the most effective whether it be participating in sit-ins or boycotts.…

Moral panic can be defined in many different ways. One way where “Moral panic” can be better understood is by defining it as a concept as panic, fear, morals and/or “a state intervention greatly exceed the objectives threat posed to society by a particular individual or group” (Bonn Scott, Psychology today). It can also be defining as ideology of what’s wrong and and right beliefs. Like discussed in class, moral panics can be presented in both ideology and social justice. Although Professor Palakoff explained ideology and social justice, idealogy plays a bigger role to the understanding of the film “The black panthers”.…

On the contrary, Malcolm X, filled with resent for the white American and the unjust treatment African Americans received, used an indignant tone. He bluntly called out the oppression of whites by saying, “have the racists in it [the American government] exposed and condemned as the criminals that they are” (Malcolm X 305). The discrimination exasperated Malcolm X and he impatiently awaited a drastic change in America. He used the enraged energy he felt to empower his fellow African Americans to stand up for their rights. Similarly, Martin Luther King Jr. appealed to emotions, but to those of the clergymen.…
