NASCAR, or the “National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing” was created in 1947. It was the result of a meeting to discuss the issues in stock car racing. During the meeting they realized that many of the issues could be fixed. This is how NASCAR was born. The founder of NASCAR, Bill France, helped to promote the first NASCAR race by competing in the race himself (appendix 1). Billboards and newspaper ads were a common way to promote early NASCAR races. By 1993 NASCAR was growing at a rapid rate as they opened their first track in New England. In 1998 a NASCAR track was opened in Las Vegas. This brought in a lot of new business to the city because customers came for NASCAR but stayed for the casinos. During 2004 the “Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup” was announced. This was another smart marketing decision because it gave NASCAR a post season. In 2012 NASCAR unveiled their new Generation-6 car (appendix 2). These cars look very similar to normal cars that are sold on the showroom floor. This decision can make people feel better about buying a car and also gives car companies a chance to show off their cars (“timeline”). …show more content…
Sprint, xfinity, camping world, k&n, whelen, and Canadian tire are all series entitlement sponsors. NASCAR also has a list of “NASCAR Green” sponsors for sponsors that are looking for greener energy and more efficient vehicles. Some of these sponsors include Toyota, ngga, Mclaren, and 3M. Although there are many different sponsors for NASCAR, but they must consider who sponsors them carefully because NASCAR chooses sponsors that could benefit them or their target market. For example, NASCAR has a list of “Performance” sponsors. These sponsors are advertised as having high enough quality for NASCAR drivers to use
