In the book The Giver, the Stirrings plays a big role in the community. Jonas’s beginning stirrings start in dreams. Which cause him to take pills daily to “cure” the stirrings. Dictionary.com says stirrings are “a mental impulse, sensation, or feeling.” Although in the book stirrings are portrayed as beginning stages of puberty, usually starting in dreams. “The wanting,” he said. “I knew that she wouldn’t. And I think I knew she shouldn’t. But I wanted it so terribly. I could feel the wanting all through me (pg 46).” In my opinion, I think Jonas knew that Fiona shouldn’t get in the tub with him, and that she wouldn’t, but he wanted it so badly that he would do anything.
