Still I Rise Analysis

Marywood has built itself on standards of empowerment, service, excellence, Catholic identity, and respect. In two works, “A Good Man” and “Still I Rise,” empowerment is a significant factor. Empowerment has many different facets, all of which are equally important. It can be spread and received. If an individual can figure out how to empower, they can help themselves while helping others. One other thing to remember is that attitude is everything. The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate that, though empowerment may have some similarities and differences, it all connects back into one concept. Both works focus on empowerment. In “A Good Man,” Sargent Shriver says, “If education does not create a need for the best in life, then we are stuck in an undemocratic, rigid caste society” (“Sargent Shriver”). One must empower themselves before they can empower others. Empowering is more than just and attitude, it is a lifestyle. The world revolves around being empowered. The empowerment process acts as a chain reaction. Once people empower themselves, they help to empower others. Then the others empower more people, and so on.
Empowering is a key influence to many other social factors. If empowerment wasn’t around, society may become weaker in the sense that people are not as confident. Shriver and Angelou both gave others a sense of confidence. To empower, one must set a simple objective, be clear, and provide support. These are just a few basics to empowering properly.
While empowerment is an individual factor, it is also a group effort. Empowerment is significant and can be used in many ways. Whether one is a family member, friend, counselor, boss, or teacher the possibilities to empower are endless. Shriver and Angelou both were knowledgeable about empowering, if they knew it or not.
