Some say absence makes the heart grow fonder and some say a healthy relationship needs interaction on a daily basis. I think friendships have a way of developing on their own. I also think that sharing something deeper can help to sustain friendships. My best friend and I have known each other our whole lives. We did not actually become friends until about twenty years ago, and the best friend title came along a few years later. My best friend, Sandra, lives in Elkins, West Virginia. Life is full of worry and situations that have the potential to become overwhelming. I personally find that anytime I can share some hilarity, my day can immediately improve. I see humor as an equalizer in the human experience. My family thinks that we are a crazy bunch, but we just fill our home with silly moments. Luckily for me, Sandra has the unique ability to turn me into a ten year old when she gets me laughing. I end up with giggles that lead to snorts and snorts leading to leaky eyes. I have been guilty of speaking before I think, and I often say whatever pops into my head. Communication has helped all of my relationships to flourish. After all, how can I understand or be understood if not for open communication? Admittedly my style of communication is more in- your- face than most. I think that I help Sandra to be more spontaneous with her thoughts and feelings. I bring some excitement to her life in the way that she brings calm to mine.
