MILLERSBURG — A Wooster man on Tuesday admitted to stealing a truck from a Hardy Township residence in April. Scott B. Saffell, 39, of 135 Leroy Court, pleaded guilty in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to grand theft of a motor vehicle. In exchange for his guilty plea, the state dismissed related charges of theft and receiving stolen property. Sentencing is scheduled for March 2, at which time Saffell faces up to 18 months in prison; however, the state indicated it would not object to placement at the Stark Regional Community Correction Center treatment facility.…
FACTS: Mr. Vassaur Jr. owned property prior to marriage, after which he conveyed joint tenancy by Warranty Deed. Mrs. Vassaur conveyed the property to her father after fatally shooting her husband. Edgar Vassaur Sr. is the administrator for the estate of the deceased, and in an answer and cross petition, claims ownership of half the property, liens in credit life insurance policy and home improvement loan. The plaintiff brought an action to quiet the title to the realty, interposed a demurrer to the answer and cross petition, and moved for judgment on the pleadings. In the book “Ordinary Injustice” by Amy Bach, chapter four titled “Show Trial”, describes a number of different cases showing wrongful convictions being processed through the criminal justice system based off of false confessions. In Chicago, there was a nine-year-old girl named Lisa Cabassa was found raped and killed in the back of an alley a couple miles from her home. Interrogators would keep the person in a room for hours, and continuously accuse them of a crime that sometimes the person being interrogated did not commit.
