The first ‘Best evening buys’ is a simplistic editorial, featuring models wearing doll like dresses in a plain blue studio setting with one sloped wall, the models appear to be youthful and display a certain amount of naivety, which enhances this sense of youth. In the image I have chosen to focus on the model wears a soft pink dress with short ballooned sleeves and a two tiered tutu skirt, made of what appears to be a tulle, paired with white pumps and a pearl necklace. The editorial has a strong and seedy narrative and is shot on a variety of locations in what appears to be an industrial dockyard at night. The images are highly progressive and politically charged which is typical of Meisel’s work and provide a very succinct commentary on sexuality in the early to mid 00’s. The main image I shall focus on from this series is the 17th image in the spread. The photograph features a male model bearing his hairy chest and armpits in a black sheer spaghetti strapped slip dress. The model is smoking a cigarette with wet slick back hair, porcelain white skin, heavy eye make-up and a gentle pink lipstick, against a non descript background of unfocused lights in the distance.
