How did the son of a bingo parlor owner turn in to a casino mogul who is credited with bringing Las Vegas in to the new frontier, coincidently the name of a casino he owned? Mr. Steve Wynn has a vision for beautiful things, he always wanted for people to say that place is beautiful in and out. I’ve read 4 bios and watched 3 pieces on him and the statement above is probably the most accurate, besides the fact that it is a business and he makes a lot of money, he wants people to enjoy his casinos. His father was an owner of bingo parlors and he showed interest in it at a young age because it was the family business. His father Stephen Weinberg changed his name for fear of Jewish discrimination to Wynn, and 6 months after Steve was born he changed his name also. Mr. Wynn’s father died at a young age of 47 due to complications during a heart operation, and Mr. Wynn took it hard. Not only did he lose his father he also gained his father’s gambling debt, it was unknown to Mr. Wynn that the debt was so high. Months after his father died he took over the bingo halls and turned a profit after some time. So not only was he successful he was able to repay all of his father’s debt. After a couple of years he decided he would get out of the bingo halls and sell them, and with his profits he went to Las Vegas in 1967 and bought in to the Frontier Hotel and Casino. During his early time in Las Vegas he started a wine and liquor company, after a couple of years he sold it and with the profits he decide to buy into another casino downtown called The Golden Nugget. He was able to start his vision at the Nugget by remodeling it and bringing people back to downtown. Wynn graduated with a degree in English literature, and not a degree in hotel and casino management he has changed the way hotel and casinos are run. He strives for what he thinks will be best for him and his employees and so far he has not been wrong.
