Steve Rogers, or Captain America, is a superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He got his powers from a super soldier serum administered to him by Dr. Abraham Erskine in the 1940’s. The serum gave him super strength and other enhanced abilities allowing him to become the optimal soldier during World War II. Steve Rogers is like an epic hero in many ways. He has superhuman abilities, he is on a quest, and he is a strong and responsible leader.
The first way Captain Rogers is like an epic hero is that he has super human abilities. In the Odyssey, Odysseus is able to string the bow when no one else can. This is an example of how his abilities are superior to others’. Captain Rogers also has superhuman abilities. He is given a super soldier serum that changes him from being a very small person with below average strength and a wide variety of health issues to a massive man with super strength and a perfect immune system. Odysseus’s abilities and Captain Rogers abilities are both alike and different. They are alike in that they can both do things that others can't but they are different in that Odysseus’s abilities are natural and Captain Rogers’ are man-made.

In each literary and folk epic there are characters called epic heroes, epic heroes can be seen as superhuman because of their outstanding achievements but what makes the plot is that they are on a larger than life quest. Along the way there is major conflict, like fear, battles and bloodshed. In order to be an epic hero the characters must be brave just as Beowulf was, just to prove how brave he was told his men to “leave your battle shields and your spears” (Beowulf line 130) as they approached the…
