Steve Mccurry: The Art Picture Of The Afghan Girl

Decent Essays
I chose the art picture of the Afghan girl that was taken by Steve McCurry. The best kind art has meaning beyond just an image; perhaps it will bring you to tears, make you laugh, or remind you of something. It also will stand out in a crowd, and dares to be different. I believe this photo is very unique because it is understandable. By looking at this image, I see a beautiful young Afghan girl with the prettiest eyes that seems to be going through some hard times in her life. The way she is looking at the camera makes her look mad, irritated, and confused on why a man is here taking a picture of her. The light shaping is focusing on her eyes which to me is the most appealing figure in this photo and seems to be the main focus. The lighting

They say a picture is worth a thousands words I agree with that a picture can say a lot to the viewer, same thing with a painting. The photograph and painting I chose to write about is about Queen Elizabeth. The photograph of Queen Elizabeth was taken in 1952 by Beatrice Johnson and it shows Queen Elizabeth wearing a beautiful crown,a yellow patterned dress, with a sash, and diamond jewelry. In the picture the queen has a slight smile not showing any teeth because, it’s a type of picture where it’s taken serious. What I mean by that is she is someone that is well known and that photograph shows her royalty and her importance by wearing her crown.…

The artwork I chose to imagine is Van Gogh’s famous oil painting called Starry Night. It was painted in June of 1889 and has grown to be known as one of his most famous paintings. Van Gogh was a post-impressionist and painted Starry Night from memory in his apartment. The view is of a village from a window in an asylum. I chose this painting because it has always been hanging in my Aunt’s living room.…

Joe Rosenthals 1945 photograph of US troops raising the us flag in iwo jima. This picture is one of the world most iconic photographs and is a symbol of US victory in the second world war. It has earned a Pulitzer prize, being the only photograph that has won this prize in the same year as its release and became the most recognizable and significant photos of war but some believe the scene to be staged. This picture is of the second flag, the bigger one, the first photograph was taken hours earlier but the first flag was too small to be seen and under dramatic for the events that had taken place and didn't capture the full emotion of the photograph.…

He uses emphasis to make “Red” Jackson the focal point of the photograph. He is standing in darkness, with the light from outside only falling on his face, head, and shoulder. The contrast of the dark background, and the light falling across “Red” draws your eyes first to him, and then through the broken pane of glass on his right. The second principle I noticed was balance, the photograph isn’t perfectly symmetrical, but the light falling on him and coming through the window, led me to feel a sense of…

How did man's view change during The Renaissance? It changed because of 3 major things known as art, literature and religion. Art showed many different paintings from artists like Leonardo Da Vinci and Duccio Di Buoninsegna who created famous pieces of art like the “Mona Lisa”, and the “Madonna Enthroned Between Two Angels”. Literature showed people beauty of life in a god-like way. Religion/astronomy showed how the Heliocentric universe was more accurate than the geocentric universe.…

I think “Gravity’s Rainbow” would catch the attention of anyone who comes upon it. It is such a soft and sharp work of art that I think it is one of the most beautiful paintings I’ve ever seen. Time. The final frontier, in these snapshots of life that we call pictures we can capture many things. This painting reflects the economic and social changes of the late medieval period in Europe by displaying the social side by people interacting with each other. Also the people seem to be enjoying themselves and having a good time conversing with the other people in the room without the hassle of arguing over little things. It shows the economic changes by displaying that business can be discussed with no arguing and also how business can be handled efficiently with as minimal problems as possible and the economy consists of less battling than before. The painting I chose was Frank Stella’s “Flin Flon VIII”. It is an acrylic piece on canvas characterized by a mixture of curving and straight lines that interlock, vibrant colors, and an emphasis on the circle in the middle of the canvas. A huge quantity of negative space is present in the painting and the painting emits a smooth texture. The painting is one hundred and eight inches squared, making it one of the largest paintings in the San Diego Art Museum. Its size projects itself on the viewer overwhelming them with its color and size.…
