Have you ever wondered why your life plays out the way it does, and wonder where you are going to end up at the end? In this essay I will be talking about the very encouraging commencement speech that Steve Jobs addressed in 2005, to the Stanford University. He breaks his speech down into three stories. I will be breaking down each one as to what he was saying to the graduates, followed by my opinion of what I thought of it. I will begin with his first story that he opens up with, he was a drop out. Giving his commencement speech was the closest that he had gotten to graduation. He goes into talking about how he was adopted. His biological mother was an unwed collage graduate. However, she wanted him to have well educated, college …show more content…
He opens it up with a quote that he read when he was 17 years old. This quote has took with him ever since; “If you live each day as if it were your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right”. This makes you want to follow your heart even more. A year later he was diagnosed with a tumor on his pancreas, which was cancerous. The doctor at first said it was incurable, and that he had three to six months to live. They had instructed him to go home, and say his final goodbyes, basically to get all his affairs in order. He went back in for a biopsy, the doctor then discovered that what he had was curable by surgery. He had the surgery, and then he was fine. He then goes on to say that our time is limited, so don’t waste anytime living someone else’s life. Therefore, don’t be trapped by dogma. He tells them to never let others opinions drown out your inner voice. Have courage to always follow your heart, and intuition to whatever you dream of. Everything else becomes secondary. He leaves his speech with the words; “Stay hungry. Stay foolish” (Steve Jobs …show more content…
We all are going to die, but what is life if you didn’t live it to the fullest. You get one life so live it doing what you love, and what brings you happy. Life has a way of throwing us curve balls, but that is life we still have the choice to keep on going. You will never know of anything that you could achieve if you ever just gave up. In conclusion, I hope that I was able to break down Steven Jobs commencement speech in a way that his words where heard and felt. He was a very successful man, but he didn’t have it that easy. He worked hard to get to where he was. Also, he never took a minute for granted. He appreciate the little things around him. He also learned from all his mistakes, but didn’t set to long. I for one have taken so much away from his speech for my own life. Don’t ever
