Jobs describes this experience in order to emphasize to the graduates, “Don't lose faith”, “You’ve got to find what you love”, and “If you haven't found it yet, keep looking” (Jobs, 2005). This experience from Jobs conveys an encouraging tone to the graduates to pursue what they love.
Jobs closes his address by expressing the realizations he made when faced with death. He appeals to the emotions of the audience by warning the graduates “your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else’s life” and “Don't let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice”. Jobs expresses this message in order to establish the graduates should “have the courage to follow your heart and intuition” because you never know when your last day will be (Jobs, 2005). This story creates a compelling tone that urges the audience to follow their dreams and live every day like it is their last.
