In life people strive to be the absolute best they can be, especially when it comes to sports. In the recent years, many athletes have been caught using steroids all around the world. When an athlete uses performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) they are usually a well-known athlete. Therefore, the utilization of PEDs is becoming more prevalent. Now, when an athlete is succeeding in their sport, it causes the assumption of drug use to arise (Scott). Some athletes accomplish their goals and dreams by working hard and being dedicated to the sport, while others use steroids and other performance enhancing drugs to help them reach their goals. Using PEDs takes many aspects away from the athlete and creates an unfair competition between someone who acquires those characteristics and does it all through hard work. Winning should be an authentic victory, meaning that the athlete should combine extraordinary natural talent with exemplary effort, training, and technique (Murray). With the use of steroids athletes aren’t using their natural talent much less any of the other factors. It is unfair that many athletes train hard to be the best they can be and aren’t successful 100% of the time while others use steroids and don’t work nearly as hard and are still as successful or even more successful. This is all part of the moral aspect and should make one question themselves as in “Is this the right thing to do?” or “How will this help me in the long run?” I used the sources nih.gov and bmj.com.
