Steroids In High School Sports Essay

Steroid use for high school sports can have many negative affects on your body, that people don’t realize. The human body reacts differently to different things. People take steroids to help their performance in sports. They may also take them to enlarge their muscles. What they don’t know is that it has more than just positive effects. They are too caught up in their appearance to even realize all of the side effects it can put out. Males are proven to take most of the blame for the use of steroids in sports in general. The use of steroids is proven to be more common for men, because they are involved in high contact sports such as football. Men are also know to weight lift more frequently than women. “Studies show that there is rising interest on the part of females with respect to performance enhancing substances.”(Tygart 1-4) This shows that it shouldn’t just be mostly blamed on men, because women use them too. They are mostly used to increase performance in the gym or on a field. It makes them feel more powerful and aggressive. When they believe that they aren’t good enough to accomplish things beyond reach, they act upon performance-enhancers, and things to make them better. When pressure is put on them to do their best or try their hardest to achieve a goal, they think they can’t do it on their own. They are also focused on the appearance and what people would think of them. This is very common throughout high school, shown in both genders. Claims have been made that parents may be putting too much pressure on their kids to push their hardest. In most cases the parents just want you to be the best you can be, they aren’t wanting you to start taking drugs to improve your abilities. Parents want to be proud of their kids, and want them to be involved in activities to keep them busy and
