In this documentary it discusses the use of anabolic steroids and how they are used as a performance enhancing drug. It is a widely used drug in the United States to achieve the American dream. They have been part of sports for many years now. Some people think it has made it a sport filled with drugs and dealers instead of talent and skill. Others say without it sports would not be able to progress like it has and that it needs to be legalized so that every athlete has equal access and the knowledge needed to consume the product. Steroids have transformed sports and the entertainment industry in many ways, such as celebrities and bodybuilders using steroids to assist in gaining muscle size. There are roughly 15 actors who admit or are accused of using steroids. One of them, Arnold Schwarzenegger, admits to using steroids back in 1977 when they were legal. Schwarzenegger began weight training when he was 15 years old. He won the Mr. Universe title at 20 years old and went on to win the title six more times. To some he is considered the greatest bodybuilder of all time and many people look up to him when it comes to the sport. Anyone who is a body builder and sees Arnold in his prime as Mr. Universe must associate steroids as the way to reaching their goal. Unfortunately everyone seems to focus on the negative effects. If anabolic steroids are used correctly they can: Improve physical appearance, increase muscle mass, increase strength and endurance, train longer and frequently with unprecedented intensity, boot sporting performance, and faster recuperation. There are also medical benefits which include replacement therapy for men who do not produce enough testosterone, and HIV-positive patients and even individuals with cancer to increase their appetite, maintain muscle mass and enhance their well-being. Most people who use steroids do not have the knowledge and are doing so without the supervision of a health physician and may be abusing the drug unintentionally. If abused steroids can have adverse side effects for men and women such as: high blood pressure, acne, tremor/nausea/vomiting, mood swings, periodic bout of uncontrollable anger, paranoia, delusions, depression, jaundice/liver damage, urinary problems, pain in the joints, edema.
