Young adulthood is a time where an individual can find love and begin their working career. In this week’s simulation I was in the young adult period of life. During the simulation I was able to find love, begin a stable career, get married, have two children, get promoted in my job, and become both mentally and physically healthy. All of these factors had positively influenced my life. I hope to achieve these goals in my own future of young adulthood. In this paper I will explain the key concepts of both Sternberg and Erikson’s theories of love, and how I can achieve my own successful marriage in the future. Sternberg and Erikson both have theories about love that are heavily influenced in relationships. Sternberg has a triangle theory of love that has three dimensions: passion, intimacy, and commitment. Depending on what dimension’s a relationship holds it could be infatuation, affectionate, fatuous, or consummate love. Consummate love, which is the strongest love, holds all three components to a relationship (Santrock, 2013, p. 440). Erikson’s theory on love is held in his sixth stage, Intimacy versus Isolation. Erikson describes intimacy as losing oneself while finding oneself in another person (Santrock, 2013, p. 439). Being able to find the kind of intimacy Erikson describes is important for both individual and partner growth. In the simulation I am married to a man I met in college. So far in the simulation I have a happy relationship that seems to be consummate love. During this time individuals have the opportunity to pick a job that will positively impact their life and leave them feeling satisfied. Santrock (2013) explains that work defines people in fundamental ways. For instance, the salary an individual makes influences their financial status, the job itself can describe the social class a person associates themselves with, and possibly their physical and mental health. My future career path was chosen due to how it will both positively impact all aspects of my life and leave me feeling satisfied. I am pursing my baccalaureate’s degree in special education, a career that I am extremely happy to one day have. This career choice will financially leave me stable in ways that I am able to provide and support myself and a future family. Being an educator is a professional career and I will be surrounded by other supportive co-workers and friends in the same social and financial situations. My job will also provide me with health benefits so I can properly take care of my body to feel mentally and physically sufficient. Based on both my personal belief and my simulation I feel that I am the type of person who will want to switch positons in my career field. For example, during the simulation I was promoted to a higher position in my workplace. Although I was content with what my current position had been, I decided to take
