Sterling-Turner's Fbas Analysis

I have not had any experience doing FBAs and I am very eager to learn and practice how to conduct them in the future. As I read through the article that Sterling-Turner wrote in great detail about, I could not help but think how both indirect and descriptive methods go hand in hand. Many people may not agree with me, but as a Family Support Specialist we do something called Routine Based Interview where we go through the day of the child and what happens step by step (wake up, makes noise, lifts arms up to be picked up by parent, etc) Although the statements we collect through the interview may not be as helpful to collect data, it helps collect information about the child's lifestyle, the skills they have, the skills they chose to use or not,

On November 2nd I attended a presentation given by David Eubank, a former U.S Army Special Forces and Ranger Officer, and an alumnus of Texas A&M University. Currently, he is the director for the Free Burma Rangers (FBR), an organization that offers humanitarian aid to those in the Burma, Kurdistan, and Sudan war zone. While FBR has no religious or racial denomination, David himself is a Christian and believes that his being a follower of Jesus is what has led him to organizing FBR. David emphasized the importance of faith, love, and humility when providing aid to others. FBR has 3 rules for those wanting to join: the first is that, whatever one wants to do, they must do it with love in their heart.…

The Florida School of Deaf and Blind(FSDB) is located in St. Augustine, Florida and was established in 1882 by Thomas Coleman. This school has had a positive impact on the Deaf community with being one of the first schools in the state of Florida. FSDB has been named as one of the top deaf and blind schools in the nation; with a lot of well-known individual graduates. FSDB, I believe is very well off considering they start with pre-k and go all the way up to teaching young adults. From reading on their website, they take this school very seriously with “high qualified teachers who hold dual certification in both education of students who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired, and in their specific academic content areas” (http://www.fsdb.k12.fl.us/).…

A situation Firo-B assessment would be appropriate establishing a team to build trust. Being new to a team is hard and there will be diversity and different point of views some voices maybe strong others maybe soft. The goal of building a team is to get each member to work effective together and sort out any issues that arises and complete the task within set time frame. I think Feldman CPI 260 assessment is similar because it measures work related motivation and characteristics (2009). For example, if Pat and Seth clashes all the time both assessment will help them work through differences and become cohesive.…

Children aged 0-3 mainly experience transitions such as starting nursery. Practitioners would normally observe the child at home. This way the practitioner can get an idea of the child’s interests, comfort items and routines. It is also good as the practitioner will able to see what developmental stage the child is currently at and if they may be any concerns when they start nursery. For example the child may have limited speech.…

The need to assess the verbal and social interaction of Thomas following a small phonic interventions group was noted as the priority of the second observation. Therefore a detailed narrative observation was chosen to enable the evaluation of Thomas with regards to interaction both verbally and nonverbal; during child initiated activities within the morning session. It was also intended to highlight any improvement in language acquisition and understanding, in both first and second language, made over the previous weeks. However Stevens (2013) warns of the practitioner who focuses purely on the learning outcome of the observation missing vital information which may arise. Conversely Hayes (2014) highlights how focused observations allow for…

Children are considered people that have not yet met the definition of majority – this varies from eighteen (18) to twenty-one (21) years of age1. One of the first examples would be: if a minor signs a contract they are not to be held liable unless these contracts are for necessities. Empirical work is a research based on observation. However, there are variety challenges researchers should have faced while undertaking empirical work on babies and young children. Researchers have to consider those challenges such as ethics, consents, communication, funding, rewards and budget etc while they are doing hypothesis and planning. Moreover, there are two sides of perspective when processing an empirical work, one is participants ' performance, the others is from the experiences of how the questions asked and the understanding of the answer of researchers (Jipson, 2003), however, social contexts, politics and values etc are strongly effective by the findings of the research and theory (Frase, 2004), in order to give parents or…
