I did make assumptions of infection control that did change after I read into the history of it a little more. I did not think of the fact that people use to not have the correct medications for pain during oral surgery or tooth extractions. It is unbelievable to me that most people used to die from infections from not having the proper antibiotics for oral procedures.
I’ve learned many things about infection control and how important it is, before Universal Precautions were made in 1991, which was not that long ago people were getting sick more often and dying of infections caught from patients. I now know that infection control in dentistry is crucial and every office needs to obey the rules of standard precautions.
In conclusion, infection control is one of the most important things in the medical and dental field. The proper precautions for patients and employees are to follow the universal precautions.
