Blessington was being bias and he judged the children based on their community (being Latinos) instead of their individuality. In other words, every student is different and exemplifies different characteristics, however because of their culture and ethnicity he automatically poses them to have identical potentials in life. Blessington basically lower the students confidence by making them feel they won’t make it anywhere in life, other than jail or hooking.
In addition, as a teacher, Mr. Blessington needed to be a source of motivation to the children, instead of destructible tearing them down with his negative and stereotypical comments. A prime example of his negativity was when he’ll go to school saying that a man with a suit is a man that is valuable and that a man without a suit has no worth.
