Some examples are, Modern Family, The Simpson’s and Two and a Half Men, just to name a few. However, I am just going to focus on the television show Modern Family. Modern Family is a very well know show because of the different types of characters and each character has a unique personality, but does the audience pay attention to how the characters are portrayed? Gloria, one of the characters, is Latin and in the show she is portrayed as a woman without any type of education, loud, outspoken, and having a thick accent. Claire, another character, is portrayed as a stay-at-home mother, taking care of the children, and being nurturing. According to Modern Family and the Mainstream, both Gloria and Claire fit in stereotypical roles. Simon and Hoyt (2013) argue that stereotypical images of women can have a negative perspective and can affect how women are seen outside of television shows. Simon and Hoyt (2013), also argue that having negative perspectives of women can lead to low creditability in the workforce and in their leadership skills.
