Therapeutic Observation Essay

I have been in a psychiatric facility for the first time. Of course, there are some stereotypes about what is psychiatric facility looks like people picture from the movies or media. I tried to read about therapeutic communication and nontherapeutic communication before going to that facility to have a better way to talk to them. But it was not easy to use these ways because of what I saw there was different from what I expect. The first observation is that they look like normal people in many facets and if I have not been told that they are psychiatric patient, I would not figure it out myself. The second observation is that they talk like normal people at some point, except they jump from one topic to another which sometimes they distracted me following their story. The third observation is that they talk a lot without mentioning about their mental illness. They try to avoid talking about that because no one wants to share his or her weakness on the public which is normal to me. People show off their strong points because they do not want to feel vulnerable. They also do not want to talk about their mental issues because they want to show up or say that they are equal and mental health is a disease like any other disease, so do not judge us. Actually, the recovery of mental health is a process of healing in order to accomplish it, and the recovery needs some component to be effective.
