Moreover, I was guilty of stereotyping Americans. I should not have believed the stereotype about Americans that most of them are overweight. Before I came to America, someone told me that Americans are obese, and if I wanted to keep a good figure, I’d better cook Chinese food and eat as little American food as I could. After I came here, I noticed that a large amount of girls I saw on the downtown streets and campus own a thin and healthy figure. I realized that this stereotype mislead me, since just a few people are overweight.…

While race and religion plays a profound role in the integration and everyday life experiences of migrants, the events of September 11th have made the assimilation process nearly impossible for countless immigrants of a non-white ethnicity, especially individuals of an Arab or Muslim background, primarily due to the racists bigotry and stereotypes which derive from immigration enforcement practices post 9/11. Furthermore, “while race is widely perceived to lack an empirical basis, it persists as a salient feature of individual, as well as group, identity, and as a significant principle underlying the social and political order” (Provine & Doty, 261). More specifically, considering that “today the majority of Arab Americans arriving are Muslim,…

Two ways that portray the unequal treatment of minorities through stereotypes is Arabic men are terrorist, and Latinos are thieves. Many taxi drivers have gone through fear of hate crimes, there have been cases where they take in clients (As Taxi drivers) and are stabbed to death because of the people feeling bitter about them. The horrid event of 9/11 and Arabic portrayal in the media influences how many people perceive Arabs, unaware of who they actually are and one group of people’s actions should not determine who the rest of the people are. This is an unequal treatment because some people do not trust Arabs due to the stereotype and it may be harder to find jobs or to be safe when hate crimes are happening. Another stereotype is Latinos being thieves.…

People judge the way you look and assume you are what they think you are. Just because you’re from a different religion and is from a country where the bad guy in the news is from doesn't mean you are bad too. You need to know the person before you can even judge how they are. They are human too, and are nothing different from you they just look different not everyone looks the same and that's what makes us different.…
