Stereotypes Of Teenage Drivers

Teenagers tend to have a few stereotypes associated to their age such as reckless behavior and a highly independent mentality, but there’s no larger trait attributed to teens than their reputation for terrible driving. Many teens will testify that they are a good, safe driver, but most would go right back and agree that teens are some of the most reckless drivers. There are many reasons they are considered the worst drivers on the road, such as unsafe habits, and inexperience. The article “Teen Drivers” points out a few key points on the matter of teen driving. When teens reach the age of driving and getting the freedom that comes with it, along comes the chances of danger. Though it’s true many teen drivers can be and are cautious drivers, their lack of experience is against them, and it states this well in the article, “It takes practice to become a good driver, and teens simply haven’t logged enough hours” (paragraph 5). It’s easy to be distracted while driving, and a major distraction for teen drivers is additional passengers in the car. In the article “Teen Drivers” it states, “The odds of having a serious accident increase with each teen that gets into the car”, and the reasoning is that the more voices and activity in the car, the more things to keep the driver preoccupied from focusing entirely on the road, especially for a teenager. Other bad habits tend to be reckless driving tactics on the road. Since teens are young, they tend to have less respect for safe driving and may not take the necessary driving precautions, and in the article it states, “Furthermore, they(young drivers) are more likely to engage in risky driving behaviors such as speeding, following too closely, passing inappropriately, and driving without a seat belt”(paragraph
