Merriam Webster dictionary defines sexism as behaviors conditions or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social rules based on sex. In today’s society sexism is the most commonly behavior applied especially against women and girls, and men and boys. In today’s society is actually seems as though men make more money than women and they also excel faster especially in the work place. Sexism in my opinion is basically the different views society has on men and women. The two most commonly places where sexism is found is in the workplace and schools. The first place where sexism is mostly found is in the workplace. In the workplace dress codes is one way to trigger sexism. If a person is revealing too much they are distracting someone else which can cause them to lose focus on their work. Women revealing too much skin and wearing tight clothes distract men. Even for men wearing cologne and their clothes can easily distract a woman as well causing comments to be exchanged and unusual actions …show more content…
Sexism in school s is shown through the levels of authority, studies and students. Sexism in the levels of authorities is shown through the treatment of men as a favored group over women. In schools it seems that mainly now most men are principals’ and in the main office with higher titles, and most women nowadays are just teachers and assistants. And for students the favoritism against athletes and non-athletes displays sexism. This also a form of sexism to me because the boys and girls on the football ,basketball and other teams get a little more lenience than non-athletes, especially if there the star player, teachers will cut some slack trying to make it not noticeable, but everyone sees it. It’s also shown through our studies, I say that because what we actually learn today teaches us things, demonstrating boys and girls in leading roles and it also encourages boys and girls to think beyond

The men and women of America constantly reference and utilize sexist stereotypes of modern day society. We cannot completely blame our current day society for this abundance of sexism. Many of these ridiculous notions are passed down generationally or simply learned from watching our parents or elders in the community. Children began to pick up on these gender identities set up by society at a young age. Feminine and masculine attributes are generally viewed as opposites.…

Sexism has been a major factor in American history and still is today. Although women are treated more equally today than they did in the past, we can still see some differences in the way men and women are looked upon as. With studies further looking into sexism and the way men and women are treated can help us end this “war”, that is if it ever will end. It occurs many times throughout the book, even if it’s just small remarks by men. A prime example of sexism is the way Aunt Alexandra (Scout and Jem’s aunt, Atticus’ sister) forces gender expectations onto Scout. Aunt Alexandra believes in the traditional ‘Man goes out to work, woman stays inside and cleans’ mentality. This mindset was harmful to all the women and girls that wanted to express themselves and have the same opportunities that a man has. Aunt Alexandra believed that Scout needed a better female role model in their house than Calpurnia (the Finches’ maid/cook) because Cal is of a lower class.…

“Sexism in a society is most commonly applied against women and girls. It functions to maintain patriarchy, or male domination, through ideological and material practices of individuals, collectives, and institutions that oppress women and girls on the basis of sex or gender”(unknown). Throughout history, women have had to struggle to make their way in the world. Women had to fight for the right to vote and they are still fighting for equal salaries in the job industry. Females overcame the oppression of society's views on them when women began working in the factories to help support the war effort.…

In our society today, there are still many techniques of discrimination that one would think had been eradicated years ago. One of these techniques is sexism, which is the act of prejudice, stereotyping, and/or intolerance on the basis of gender. Sexism has taken control over the way people think and it affects the job industry, government decisions, the media, and unfortunately, education. Children begin to experience sexism at a young age, typically in elementary school. An example of a subliminal sexist message that they might experience would be a teacher scolding a female student for acting in an unorthodox fashion that does not fit the ‘calm, respectful, and neat’ stereotype for girls, but then excusing the same actions of a male student, using the overused, disgusting statement ‘boys will be boys.’…

Taking Women Students Seriously In Rich’s speech, she asserts that women students are not taken seriously, this is true because, me, as a female student can speak on the issues that the author states about females not being taken seriously. “I see my function here today as one of trying to create a context, delineate a background, against which we might talk about woman as students and students as women” (Rich 443). This speech was spoken by Adrienne Rich, who has strong solutions to the way female students are treated in and out of the classrooms as well as in society in the 1940s, by stating examples and some of her personal experiences as a female student and as a women teacher living in a world that looks down upon women as if…

Sexism or gender discrimination is prejudice based on a person's sex. Sexism affects both men and women, but primarily women. There are a lot of examples that show discrimination against women especially in employment. One of those examples is obvious during and after World War II in United States because women, increasingly, were needed to work in war production factories, and after the war, there were abrupt unemployment and replacement of all working women (Albee and Perry, 1998). In addition, women's pay and positions are still unequal to men (Gervias, hillard and Vescio, 2010).…
