Stereotypes Of Religion

The sign of the cross, merely a sign of religion and something that is very sacred to all Christians. I remember when I was in Israel back in 2012 and 2013 of how religion played a huge part in everyone’s everyday life. Not to mention being in the middle east in Bahrain and Jordan, we would hear the call for prayer in the middle of the day, kind of like from an announcing system all across the city. As eerie as it sounds, we stereotype the sound we think of the negative aspects of the religion Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Ladin, and many of the terrorist groups that look into the more radical religious beliefs in Allah. But really that showed me how religion was vitally important to the everyday lives of the Jordanians and the Bahrainis. But really …show more content…
Evil is the result of bad actions stemming from a bad character. (Questions, n.d.) In today’s society we see a lot of potential evil that exists. We have seen the media portray the ones that serve and protect us from all crime and criminals, murder innocent victims on video tapes and claim that they were in self-defense. We have seen the great Islamic state of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) threaten the United States and all countries that are against the group, and carry out numerous attacks on US Soil as far as “lone wolf” office shooting attacks and in Paris, gun fire and bombings during a rock concert which killed hundreds and injured many. Death is the overall result, or rather it’s the main goal to carry out orders to attack. The goal is to eliminate as many people as they can. And make a statement that as soon as we let our guard down, they will give us a cheap shot. Moral Evil is the more appropriate term for this. Murder, aggression, terrorism, violence, theft, greed, bribery , hatred, racism, discrimination, revenge, lying, deceit, slander, gossip, adultery, rape and other sexual immorality are examples of moral evils. (Exodus 20:12-17, Deuteronomy 16:19, 1 Chronicles 22:8, Isaiah 2:4, Mark 7:21-22, Romans 12:17-19). Moral evil is caused by our sinfulness and rebellion against God. It is the result of ignoring the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) and Jesus’ command to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:35-40. Romans 13:9, James

There are many different ways to be evil. You can be evil by having a couple of thoughtless followers next to you and using comments to get things done your way like Regina George in the film “Mean Girls” by Tina Fey. Another way would be holding a huge knife and having a bunch of little boys at your side, as Jack in the novel “ The Lord of the Flies” by William Golding. Mean Girls is humorous with fights between high school girls. Lord of the Flies is serious with violence that go from hand fights to murders from boys that are alone on an uninhabited island.…

People are not born evil, they learn bad things from the world. Zimbardo defines “evil” as the exercises of power to intentionally harm (psychologically), hurt (physically), and / or destroy mortally and commit crimes against humanity. People do have the capacity for evil but that does not make everyone a potential monster. Sharon Begley says that when people look at Timothy McVeigh they do not see a monster but they see a human. McVeigh had done a lot of bad things but at the end of the day we see him as nothing more than a human.…

In our society, evil takes a different form each day. It could manifest itself in an individual robbing a store for purposes known only to it or in the massacre of thousands of lives by a group whose staunch faith in their religion leads them to commit such violence justifying their moral atrocities. The latter I believe to be the chaotic evil that has the most impact in our society today. Catholicism heavily influenced Flannery O’Conner, the writer of A Good Man Is Hard To Find, as she once wrote in a…

The evil in man stems from one root, which is survival. The instinct for survival occurs in every being, and taking an evil approach is usually the one that is taken. “But the Prince Prospero was happy and dauntless and sagacious. When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale and light-hearted friends from among the knights and dames of his court, and with these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys.” (Poe 2).…

People are quick to judge the Muslim culture and stereotype all Muslims to be terrorists. Many people have a hard time seeing the difference between a Muslim and a radical extremist; however, statistics show that only a small portion of terrorists are of the Muslim culture. Because of this, Muslims are wrongfully stereotyped into one group. As a result, a Muslim’s individual identity is greatly affected by a few radical extremists, as well as his or her culture and life. The concept of evil is presented throughout many of the novels that we have read this semester. The way that evil is defined differs between Self-Reliance, Bless Me Ultima, Siddhartha and Their Eyes Were Watching God. These various novels use evil either as a noun or as a verb and the definition differs depending which novel one looks at. That in which is evil brought upon fear and the individuals who encountered it “had been afraid of the awful presence”.(Bless Me Ultima, 2.36-37) Evil is presented as a force that either doesn’t exist, a physical entity that exists outside of oneself or as good left undone. Must Be Crazy The way that Non-Africans tend to view the continent of Africa is often unbecoming and strewed. When the continent is mentioned, the image of Africans being uncivilized, illiterate, and simply backwards may be some of the first characteristics of Africa to come to thought. This portrayal of Africans leads to the belief that in order to prosper, Western salvation is needed in Africa. These thoughts have been programmed into the minds of Non-Africans because of publications such as “The Gods Must Be Crazy,” which portray African’s using these stereotypes.…
