Stereotypes Of Mexican Culture Essay

In today’s society, there is a large part of stereotyping of the Mexican culture. Some of this is positive but most of this is negative. Many Mexicans are viewed as loyal and hardworking citizens and yet even the Maricopa Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, views most Mexicans as illegal immigrants using slurs such as “wetbacks”. Many lawsuits have been brought to the Federal Court against “Sheriff Joe” for not only allowing this behavior yet in many ways enforcing it especially after being told to stop by the courts (Cassidy, M. (2016, May 16). Rather than look at each person individually, the culture is ethnocentric as one category known as “Illegals”. “If the officer has "reasonable suspicion" to believe the driver or other occupants might be in the country illegally” (Hensley, J. J. (2012, June 25), then they are allowed to pull the vehicle over. Many legal residents such as a permanent resident or United States citizen have been involved in these atrocious stops and have sought legal action. Dictionary.com description states “the belief in the inherent superiority of one’s own ethnic group or culture”. This culture has such faith in their foundation, that it is very seldom that one will find family not helping out family. Coming into a country not speaking, reading or writing the language for many would deter them from traveling to this faraway place Local and national media has now dedicated television shows known as “telenovelas” such as Ingle´s Sin Barreras that help Mexicans learn the English language and “uses everyday situations for dialog” (Ullman, C.
