They steal jobs, drive down wages, don’t contribute to society, cost the country money, send money out of the country and they are only here for the benefits are all arguments used by xenophobics but they are all FALSE! Immigrants fill skill and labour gaps, drive up wages because they spend their wages, pay tax (About $11 billion in the U.S), rent and insurance and are unable to get most benefits. However, despite the fact that these true facts of immigrants are widely available, the myths and stereotypes are still used by people like Donald Trump to exploit people’s fear of immigrants to get a political foothold and to fan racial hatred across the United States. A real problem for the United States and Mexico is people smuggling which means the transportation of people through several countries illegally. Because there are no pathways some immigrants can’t enter countries legally despite the fact they have escaped from terrible situations. Poor mexican people (And other South/Central American countries) who have escaped from war, poverty and drugs are faced with decision to pay hundreds of dollars of their life savings to drug cartels and gangsters in the hope that they well reach the U.S. If they reach the United States successfully they will be faced with years of hard work and treatment as second class …show more content…
Immigrants that have lower education and skills can fill in gaps for basic, hard jobs that citizens are not willing to take. Immigrants are ready to work hard to strive for a better life and opportunities as they know that they have to earn the right to live in other countries. Alternatively immigrants who are highly skilled and have a decent education could fill skill gaps that can’t be filled by citizens. Populations all across the world are experiencing problems with an aging population which means that the average age of a country or region rises due to rising life expectancy or declining birth rates. In New Zealand it is expected that about 21 percent of the population will be over 65 by the year 2031. This mean that more and more people will be over 65 not working and therefore require more retirement benefits (Superannuation, Supergold card, Pensions). That will cause a shortage of workers who pay tax to support the old population. Imagine your father or your mother being denied retirement benefits that they have worked their whole life and payed tax for because the country can’t support the aging population To counter this countries like New Zealand could create incentives for immigrants to work and live in New Zealand by encouraging more immigrants to enter the live here, thus supporting the old
