The results of a study done by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force shows that members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community experience high rates of discrimination and violence (Grant et al., 2011). Theories on the formation of attitudes and stereotypes include Social Learning, Social Cognition, Implicit Association. In a society many people have different expectations for girls and boys, from weight to intelligence. Perspective three states, “As a whole, parents hold different standards for their kids based on gender, but it's not done consciously”. Society just has the assumption that girls need to be skinny because they are girls, and that guys should be smart because they are boys. This statement is more accurate than perspective one which talks about how parents worry about their daughters being overweight more than their sons because girls can be more cruel. This doesn't really give the reason for parents wanting their sons to be more smart.…

Every single one of us stereotypes daily and we may not even realize that we are doing it. Girls, girls! I amend you for rolling your eyes and taking what seems to be a ‘disrespectful’ stance towards men who think they can control your lives. Men who believe that they are your king, your lord, your governor. These petty men who find it unattractive for us powerful women to speak our mind are simply not worth our precious time. We should be married to men who loves us and support our beliefs, not men who find it humorous to bring them crashing down.…

Often times, people perceive women as weak - it's seen in the fairytales with the dainty damsel in distress, waiting for a man to save her, as seen even in modern takes of stories like Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. This sort of submissive take on females has been told over and over since the beginning of our history when men hunted and left women to give birth and gather fruits. The weakness of women has been woven into story after story, until we believe it to be a universal truth and allow men to take dominant roles in society. After all, men like Prince Charming are perceived to be stronger for a reason - men generally have more of the hormone testosterone, which increases muscle mass and makes them look stronger. Women tend to develop more estrogen than testosterone, and naturally less muscle mass than men while being more emotionally vulnerable due to menstrual periods (they are also more prone to depression than males).…

We place women at an extreme economic disadvantage in this country, despite claiming to be accepting, equal, and diverse. Women are not given the same upward mobility in their careers as men are, forcing them to work much harder to be considered for the same opportunities as their male coworkers. On average, women also tend to make 20 – 30% less than men in the same field, despite being more educated on average. Consumer products that are marketed towards women are priced at higher rates than the near identical products marketed towards men. Though it is only a matter of a few dollars and cents, this can add up over a lifetime creating a significant economic set back.…
