Stereotypes, labels, and stigmas have been around since the beginning of civilization. To be more specific, they were formed ever since enough people started believing that being different was reason enough to marginalize and even hate others. Chose to have it and give it up for adoption. There are tons of people who long to conceive a child but are unsuccessful in doing so. Don't be selfish”. Adoption is a wonderful thing indeed. It gives people an opportunity to become parents because they actually want to and they choose to. The problem though, is that there isn't enough of those people to go around for all the children who reside in adoption centers or foster care. As stated by the Adoption Exchange Association, “there are currently 400,000 children in foster care in the United States. Out of the 400,000 children in foster care, more than 100,000 of them are available to be adopted”. Those children there, waiting to be adopted, waiting for years and sometimes their whole childhood to have a permanent home grow to know that they weren't wanted by their biological parents or that they were abandoned for a reason or another. Innocent children do not deserve to be born out of a forced pregnancy, out of rape, out of fear of getting an abortion. They are suppose to be born out of love. They do not deserve the suffering that follows them when they are born out of all of that. These women aren't being selfish by not having these children. Most are being selfish by having them, as they do not think of how their child will grow up under their parenting and only think about themselves when they choose to have them (Marcotte, 3). It's an endless debate, and it's an ironic one since it shouldn't even be one in the first
